3 Grounding Practices to Restore Balance this Fall

Fall is here, can you feel it?

The changing of the seasons brings a shift of energy as we transition into this new time. The energy of this fall season invites us to take some time to slow down and reset. This is a time of movement and transition and it is the perfect time to establish routine and cultivate grounding practices that restore balance.

Here are three practices to help you balance and ground yourself and nourish the mind, body, and spirit.

Abhyanga

This is an Ayurvedic practice that brings nourishment and vitality to our body through self-massage with warming oils. A daily Abhyanga practice restores the balance of the doshas, enhances well-being, calms the nervous system, and provides nourishment for the whole body.  Abhyanga is best performed in the morning after garshana (dry body brushing) and before a warm shower or bath. It is a beautiful way to incorporate self-love and care into your body, honoring your body as the temple of your soul.

Connect with Mother Earth

Go out in nature, stand barefoot in the grass, watch the sunset, put your feet in the mud, grow some plants. Connecting with nature has the power to ground and center your spirit. Spending time outdoors not only grounds you, but being in nature can improve your mood, boost your immune system, and reduce stress. Some of our favorite places to ground in nature in Austin are Bull Creek, the Lady Bird Lake Trail, Gus Fruh, and Barton Springs. Quiet your thoughts and calm your mind and be present in the powerful energies occurring in the moment.

Yin Yoga

The fall season invites us to slow down. Grounding yoga practices such as yin yoga will help to balance restless energy and cultivate stability and calmness in the mind.  The simplicity of a yin practice allows us to return to our bodies to cultivate gratitude for our physical being. It allows us to journey into the deeper layers of ourselves and tune into our inner workers. This heightened awareness of the physiological processes of the body allow us to gain a deeper knowledge of who we are, what we need, and how to best take care of ourselves. By slowing down and incorporating these simple practices, we can invite in a more receptive quality to process any shifts and changes that are occurring within us and all around us.
